Tianguis Turistico: AMResorts Expands in Mexico in 2014

AMResorts is gearing up for a big year in 2014 with a slew of new property openings. Travel Agent sat in on a press conference with Alex Zozaya, CEO of Apple Leisure Group, as part of the 39th annual Tianguis Turistico where we learned about the group’s expansion.

At the completion of 2014, AMResorts’ portfolio will include 39 resorts in 15 destinations. First up will be the Dreams Sands Cancun, which will open in September with 441 rooms. Following that will be Secrets Playa Mujeres in November with 474 suites. December will be a big month with the opening of Zoetry Villa Rolandi Isla Mujeres, Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya and Breathless Petempica.

Fresh off a 23.2 percent revenue gain in 2013, AMResorts will also open an AMR Training Center later this month at Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa. It will be a center for training employees at the operational and executive level, in order to lay solid foundations to promote rapid growth of the company. AMResorts will provide educational seminars backed by the hospitality university Anahua Mexico Norte.

In Panama, the company signed a contract in March with Dreams Buenaventura Panama Resort & Spa, pushing the company over the 15,000 room milestone.
