Top Spring Events at Colorado Ski Country Resorts

While there's still plenty of snow on the ground, Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) member resorts are looking ahead to spring with a slew of events, deals, promotions and activities. 

Here are some highlights of what's on tap:

Arapahoe Basin Ski Area

Alpenglow Ascents Rando Series – Friday, March 21, 4:30pm
The first of a three-part race series, there are two courses for this event: a Long Course featuring multiple transitions and significant elevation gain and a ‘Try-It’ course that has a single transition and less elevation gain. There will be prizes for the top 3 male and female winners in each division, and some fun random prizes, such as prize for the person who comes in 23rd or a random prize hidden on the course. The second and third race events will be held April 4th and April 25th.

Aspen/Snowmass

14th Annual Bud Light Spring Jam – March 14-23, 2014
The 14th annual Bud Light Spring Jam will bring two weekends of competitions, downtown concerts and parties to Aspen/Snowmass. The festival kicks off March 14 with Johnny Cash cover band Cash’d Out in the Aspen Gondola Plaza. The festivities continue the next day at the annual KickAspen Big Air, where skiers and snowboarders compete under the lights at the base of Aspen Mountain and the Fallen Friends Memorial Event the following day. A Terrain Park Boot Camp offers both adults and kids instruction on how to slide a box or hit a rail in a mini-park on Snowmass.
 
Weekend two kicks off with a Core Party concert in downtown Aspen with Beats Antique, a trio playing a mixture of live electronic and experimental world fusion music, and continues with the Helly Hansen Battle in the Bowls, and a free concert with Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R. New this year is the addition of a banked slalom out at Snowmass.

Copper Mountain Resort

Woodward Winter Camps – March 22-23
Skiers and snowboarders who have been inspired by the 2014 Winter Olympics can attend Woodward at Copper’s March Winter Camps, sponsored by Sara Outerwear and Gnu Girls on Saturday and Sunday, March 22 – 23. Guests will spend half the day in The Woodward Barn on trampolines and in foam pits before taking it to the snow in Woodward’s terrain parks. Camp is complete with giveaways from Saga and Gnu. Guests have the option to sign up for a one or two day camp. Woodward Camps are structured similar to Woodward Freestyle Lessons, which are offered daily.

Crested Butte Mountain Resort

Ski Town Breakdown featuring Matisyahu – Saturday, March 22
Now in its fifth year, Crested Butte Mountain Resort will host its annual spring concert, the Ski Town Break Down. Formally known as Festevol, this year's event offers a special concert and lodging deal: Starting at $115 per person for a night of lodging, lift ticket and concert ticket. This is based on double occupancy at the Grand Lodge.

Durango Mountain Resort

Annual Steamworks Brewery Clambake – Friday, March 14, 2-4 pm
Enjoy a bowl of delicious steamed clams, complete with corn on the cob and potatoes, and pair it with Steamworks’ award winning beers or Lil’ Toot Root Beer, then dance the afternoon away with live music on Purgatory Beach with the sizzling sounds of Bacon. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the La Plata County Search and Rescue. Beach attire is encouraged.

Eldora Mountain Resort

New Belgium Scavenger Hunt to Support Leave No Trace- Saturday, March 8
This is a day for guests at Eldora to don their best costumes, chase chickens, search for Bigfoot, and answer some ridiculous riddles all while riding snow and raising funds for Leave No Trace. Guests can bring up to three friends and family members or sign-up with the person they meet in the check-in line. Tickets cost $10 per person. The after-party for the awards ceremony will have New Belgium’s release of Snapshot Sour Wheat beer and a chance to win a pair of Rocky Mountain Underground custom skis.

Loveland Ski Area

New Belgium Scavenger Hunt to Support the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado – Saturday, March 29
The on-mountain New Belgium Scavenger Hunt is returning to Loveland Ski Area to support the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado. Bring up some friends or form a team with a new friend in the check-in line and compete for great prizes from New Belgium and Loveland Ski Area. The price of entry is $10 per person.

Jibber Jam – Saturday, February 22
This year's Jibber Jam will again take place in the Never Summer terrain park. Several boxes and rails will be used in a jam style format. The Jibber Jam is open to all ski and snowboard disciplines, and men & women, ages 7-12 and 13+. Sponsors include The North Face, Never Summer Industries, Blindside, Mountain Khakis, PWDRoom, Ripzone, Melanzana, J2, and Smith Optics.

Powderhorn Mountain Resort

Powderhorn PH3 Race - Sunday, March 16  
The Powderhorn Triple Play (PH3) Race will have three areas of concentration: Bike, Skin or Snowshoe and Ski, Tele or Ride. The race starts with an 8.35 mile, 2,627 foot vertical gain cycling stage from Mesa, CO to Powderhorn Resort. Racers will then transition to the Skin or Snowshoe portion and travel 2.03 mile, 1,741 foot elevation gain to the top of Powderhorn Resort. The final stage is a Ski, Tele or Ride descent of 1.44 miles and 1,543 foot vertical drop to the finish. There are individual and team categories.

Ski Cooper

10th Mountain Division Day – Saturday, February 22
Ski Cooper will be honoring its roots again this year celebrating the service and lives of the men who served in the 10th Mountain Division in the Allied invasion of Italy in the Second World War. Guests who come skiing for the day will see a 10th Mountain Reenactment lead the ski down, meet surviving members of the division, and sit next to them while they honor their fallen brothers at the Tennessee Pass Memorial.

Ski Granby Ranch

Insane Winter Blast – Saturday, February 22, 11am-4:30pm
Ski Granby Ranch’s Insane Winter Blast is a day that’s filled with activities, music, games and fun for the whole family. Guests can put their investigating skills to the test on a mountain-wide scavenger hunt, test out new runs, or keep their ‘energy high’ and feet moving by dancing with Snowball, Granby Ranch’s mascot. The fire pit will offer s’mores and hot chocolate that afternoon. Night skiing will be open from 5-8pm.

Silverton Mountain

2-for-1 Guided Skiing/Riding – March 28 - 30
Silverton Mountain skiing is similar to a cross of heli-skiing experience, snow cat skiing, and resort skiing. Guests will access up to 1,819 acres of backcountry type terrain via chairlift. There are no groomed runs, no cut trails, just natural black diamond skiing in the San Juan Mountains.

Steamboat Ski Resort

Steamboat Mardi Gras - February 27 - March 4
With free concerts, the Mardi Gras parade, a Cajun BBQ, beer festival and special New Orleans and Mardi Gras themed lunch creations and specials across the mountain, the festival will culminate on Fat Tuesday with an all-day celebration with snow sculpture contests at the chairlifts, restaurant contests, special activities and plenty of beads to go around.

Sunlight Mountain Resort

Crystal River Spas Spring Thing – March 15-16, 2014
In this rail jam sponsored by Crystal River Spas guests can execute jumps over a hot tub while competing for $1,000 in prizes. Guests can also participate in the Annual Colorado Animal Rescue (CARE) Poochie Poker Run, a benefit to raise money for four-legged friends who need a home and win a season pass to Sunlight for next season.

Telluride Ski Resort

Mountain Town Get-Down – March 28 - 30
Telluride Ski Resort will be celebrating the end of winter with the Mountain Town Get Down, taking place March 28-30, 2014. Live performances from the national reggae acts of John Brown’s Body and See-I will be paired with music by local Telluride artists. The weekend will kick off on Friday, March 28 with happy hour at Tomboy Tavern with local act Lily von Schtupp. The following day will offer free live music in the Mountain Village core from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Telluride local band, TriCo, will perform, followed by See-I at 2:30 p.m. and wrapping up with John Brown’s Body at 4:30 p.m. Sunday’s activities will once again resurrect the Bikini Slalom from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm with the Gorrono Ranch Luau from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. with local reggae band Bredren.

Winter Park Resort

The 39th Annual Wells Fargo Ski Cup – February 21-23
World-class disabled ski racers, Denver celebrities, Broncos alumni along with amateur skiers and snowboarders of all abilities come together for a weekend of activities to benefit the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD). Competitors in the Governor's Cup, a Pro Am race, assemble a team of five friends, family members or co-workers to compete for cash prizes and bragging rights. The highlight of the weekend is the World Disabled Invitational, when disabled skiers compete head-to-head on parallel courses. The weekend also includes a silent auction. Wolf Creek

Clinics and Racing throughout February and March
On February 22 and March 29, guests can partake in a special lift /lesson package which includes a 2 hour morning Telemark lesson for all ability levels and an all Mountain Lift Ticket for $69.00. On March 4th, Wolf Creek will host a special ski and board clinic for seniors. Lift/Lesson package which includes a 2 hour morning lessons plus an All Mountain Lift Ticket. Ticket prices are $53.00 for Ages 65+ & $69.00 for Ages 50+. Discounted Rental Rates are offered with both the Telemark and Senior packages. Every Saturday from this week through the end of March, guests will enjoy the Wolf Creek Fun Race Series. These races are free, and are open to skiers/boarders of all levels and abilities. Race starts at 11:00 on Charisma. Awards are at 3:30 on the Upper Lodge Sundeck.
