Tropical Storm Warnings Issued for the Caribbean's Leeward Islands

Various media outlets are reporting the government of Antigua has issued a tropical storm watch for the islands of Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, Nevis and St. Kitts in the Leeward Islands, while the government of Barbados has issued a storm watch for Dominica.

According to the most recent National Hurricane Centre (NHC) advisory, the system is moving toward the west at 23 mph.

The center of Tropical Storm Maria is located 660 miles east of the Leeward Islands, according to the NHC. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours. An Air Force reconnaissance plane is scheduled to reach Maria late Thursday.
