The Honolulu Star-Bulletin is reporting that Tropical Storm Guillermo is continuing to weaken on a path that will bring it far north of the Hawaiian islands, forecasters said today.
As of 5 a.m., Guillermo had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and was centered about 695 miles east-northeast of Hilo and 860 east of Honolulu. Tropical storm force winds extend about 85 miles from the center, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said today.It was moving west-northwest at 18 mph and is expected to weaken to a tropical depression by Wednesday as it passes well north of the islands.
The National Weather Service said trade winds will slowly weaken over the next few days as Guillermo passes. Trade winds are expected to start returning Thursday and strengthen by the weekend, forecasters said.
