The Latest Luxury Resort News in the Caribbean

From a new private jet program in the Bahamas to new, flashy suites at a beautiful Dominican Republic hotel, Travel Agent has a wealth of selling points for your more well-to-do clients.

Half Moon Continues Major Makeover: In Montego Bay, Jamaica, the Half Moon will undergo an extensive renovation beginning in May. Scheduled for completion in October 2018, the second phase of the $75 million Half Moon Master Plan includes new guest facilities and restaurants, as well as expansion of the beach and the accommodations, which include 57 new rooms and suites, that will replace 44 existing ones.

This phase follows the 2015 refurbishment of the Sugar Mill Restaurant, resort lobby and Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed golf course, and the addition of the popular Lester’s Café.

The 63-year-old resort, which occupies 400 acres of tropical gardens and is bordered by two miles of beach front, will remain open for the duration of the development project. Guests can stay in 31 luxurious four-, five-, six- and seven-bedroom villas, all of which have a private pool and a personal staff (butler, cook and housekeeper). The hotel’s Anancy Children’s Village will also get a refresh, which would include a new family game room.

Eden Roc at Cap Cana’s New Beachfront Suites: The Domin-ican Republic continues to raise its luxury destination profile with Eden Roc at Cap Cana’s completion of 26 Beachfront Two-Bedroom Suites. These latest additions round out an expansion that includes a renovated Beach Club with infinity pool; ocean view fitness center, aero yoga and wellness areas; Blue Grill + Bar; and a refreshed private beach with bar.

One of just four Relais & Châteaux properties in the Caribbean (and the only one in the DR), Eden Roc has casita-style Boutique Suites and two multi-bedroom villas, all with private pools and remarkable comforts, in addition to premium beachfront suites. The two new room types now available at the Eden Roc at Cap Cana are the 1,194-square-foot Beachfront One-Bedroom Suites and the 1,786-square-foot Beachfront Two-Bedroom Suites.

The decor stays true to the destination with handmade Dominican art and sculptures in each suite. All suites now have full ocean view with a terrace or balcony. Each king-size bed has a goose down feather duvet and pillows by Hanse, with luxurious bed linens. Also provided are bathrobes and slippers by Rivolta Carmignani. Rain shower heads and a large-scale cedar wood walk-in closet are some other luxury touches.

Bedrooms and living spaces have satellite TV on 55-inch LCD flat screens, Bose entertainment system and a smart technology iPad to control light, electronics and sound via the resort’s dedicated app. A work area, full kitchen and dining set for six people round out the new accommodations experience.

As with every Eden Roc at Cap Cana stay, all guests get private transfers from and to Punta Cana International Airport, full American breakfast daily at the Blue Grill + Bar and Mediterraneo restaurants, Wi-Fi, and daily housekeeping and concierge services.

The private Beach Club provides an intimate setting shaded by palm trees, thatched umbrellas and daybeds. In addition, the resort provides access to three dining outlets, spa and fitness facilities, and endless amenities of the Cap Cana community. There’s also a full marina, equestrian center and outdoor pursuits, from zip lining to water sports. Direct any questions to Juliana Cordones Sabala ([email protected]), sales and marketing manager.

Nisbet Plantation’s New Rate Structure: On the island of Nevis, Nisbet Plantation Beach Club has introduced its “5-Star Experience, 4-Star Pricing” daily rates, inclusive of breakfast only. In addition, the resort will provide only daily rates and will no longer have specials or packages. The new rates reflect a 30 percent saving. In addition, Nisbet Plantation will no longer require a minimum length of stay — even during its popular holiday and winter seasons.

Clients can continue to customize visits with popular add-on experiences, such as the Alexander Hamilton experience, a draw for guests interested in the island birthplace of the U.S. founding father whose life story is currently popular on Broadway.

The elegant Great House provides one of the three dining venues at Nisbet Plantation.

To receive even more value, guests can purchase add-on meal plans or the resort’s all-inclusive experience, which continues as an option, in advance of their stay. Lunches, the resort’s afternoon tea tradition and gourmet dinners at the Great House may also be added à la carte by guests after they arrive.

Nisbet Plantation continues to include roundtrip transfers to and from St. Kitts and Nevis airports with stays of five or more nights, representing up to a $280 value. Agents interested in booking should get in touch with Leonora Didder ([email protected]), reservations manager.
