Western-Most Point of Europe Gets First Hotel in a Decade

The western-most point in Europe has its first hotel in well over a decade. The brand-new four-star Hotel das Flores has just opened in the town of Santa Cruz das Flores, in the Azores. Located in a former whaling factory, the hotel is set on a bluff with views of the tiny nearby island of Corvo.

The Hotel das Flores has 26 rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, and a restaurant. A new whaling museum will soon open adjacent to the hotel on the site of a former whaling station depicting the history of whaling on the island. Flores is the beginning of Europe, less than 2,000 miles from New York, and sits on the American Continental Shelf.

Azores Express SATA offers direct flights to São Miguel, the main island in the Azores archipelago, with connections to Flores. The carrier is part of the SATA Group, which connects the Azores, an autonomous region of Portugal, with the rest of the world.
