Flight News

Travelers can now book their winter getaway to Jamaica via convenient daily, nonstop Delta Air Lines service beginning December 15. The airline is increasing service from once-a-week to daily flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ). The daily flight will depart JFK at 8:45 a.m., with a 1:02 p.m. arrival at MBJ. The return flight will depart MBJ at 2 p.m., arriving into JFK at 5:58 p.m.

Apple Vacations will run a Monday flight from the Greater Rockford Airport in Chicago to Montego Bay between January 28, 2013 and April 1, 2013. JetBlue Airways will operate this winter two daily flights from Florida to Kingston, a continuation of their summer 2012 service. 

Cruise News

Jamaica has sealed a first-ever call by Disney Cruise Line into Jamaica’s Historic Falmouth Cruise Port beginning October 2013. The 1,754-passenger Disney Wonder will visit the island’s newest port in Falmouth as part of the ship’s latest seven-night Western Caribbean itinerary, which will launch from Galveston, Texas.

Hotel Openings

The GeeJam Collection is soon to be expanded to include the Trident Hotel, The Castle and Blue Lagoon. Trident Hotel, will comprise of 13 villas and The Castle will have eight rooms. Both will have soft openings this month, with the official launch coming in early 2013. Blue Lagoon is expected to open on Easter of 2013.

On December 1, Jamaica introduced Karisma’s “Gourmet Inclusive” model, featuring renowned chefs, sommeliers and high-end epicurean cuisine served a la carte, with the opening of Seashore Bay Beach Resort by Karisma Hotels & Resorts in Sandy Bay, Negril. The 128-room Seashore Bay Beach Resort will operate as an all-inclusive property for couples, singles and families. Guests can choose from nine categories of rooms and suites with garden and ocean views, two pools, four specialty restaurants, a spa, various activities and entertainment, and a Kid’s Club. Jewel Runaway Bay Beach & Golf Resort (formerly Breezes Runaway Bay) recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation to the public areas, restaurants, pools, guestroom and meeting space. The 266-room, all-inclusive Jewel Runaway Bay Beach & Golf Resort offers rooms and suites featuring private balconies or private plunge pools; a Radiant Spa; Bling! Nightclub; four tennis courts; three freshwater pools including a beachfront infinity edge pool with a swim-up bar; a fitness center; meeting space for up to 200 people and more.

Lastly, RIU will open a RIU Palace in Montego Bay by December 2013. The newly built hotel will be located next to the existing RIU Montego Bay.
