November kicks off culturally with Paris Photo Month. Since 1998 Paris has honored the art of photography with private and national institutions holding exhibits throughout the city. Below is a list of the top shows, exhibitions, and venues.
Paris Photo
The major lynchpin of Paris Photo Month, Paris Photo is one of the most prestigious and acclaimed shows for international photography. Collectors, photographers, photography professionals, book publishers, art institutions, and photo buffs gather to see the latest and greatest photography. For the 19th edition of Paris Photos, 140 galleries from 33 countries will present historical and contemporary works plus 27 publishers and art book dealers will feature their books. The Salon d’Honneur has invited collector Enea Righi to show his photo collection, one of the most important in Italy, with works by Cy Twombly, Nan Goldin, and Hans-Peter Feldmann.

Philippe Halsman, Astonish Me!
In a career that spanned over 40 years, photographer Philippe Halsman captured some of the greatest figures in history, art, and show business of the 20th century. Born in Riga, Latvia, in 1906, he moved to Paris in 1931 and was immediately successful by shooting celebrities of the time including Marc Chagall, Le Corbusier, and Andre Malraux for magazines such as Vogue, Vu, and Voila. His career in Europe abruptly came to an end in 1940 with the onset of WWII. Halsman fled with his family to New York where he reestablished himself. He went on to even more success by shooting 101 covers for Life Magazine and photos in other major publications. The show features over 300 photos, including portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Duke Ellington, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Richard Nixon and Albert Einstein.

Maison Européenne de la Photographie
Located in a former 17th palace in the Marais district of Paris, Maison Européenne de la Photographie is one of the leading photography venues in Paris.
In conjunction with the World Arab Institute, Maison Européenne de la Photographie is presenting the Contemporary Arab Photo Biennial with photos by 50 artists from the Mediterranean area. There is also a retrospective of photos by Bruno Barbey, a photojournalist associated with the prestigious Magnum Photography Agency. The show features 150 black and white and color photos from his career of 55 years.

Foundation Henri Cartier Bresson
Established in 2001 by Henri Cartier-Bresson, the great French photographer, his wife Martine Franck and their daughter Mélanie, the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson's mission is to preserve the important work of the photographer. It also provides support and exhibitions for other photographers and artists.
The current show, Jeff Wall- Smaller Pictures, features smaller works by the Canadian photographer usually know for his large photo tableaus.
