Hidden in Spain Accepting Applications for New Travel Agent FAM

Spanish tour operator Hidden in Spain has announced that it is now accepting applications for travel agents who are interested in exploring Northern Spain on a fam trip that will take them from Asturias to the Basque Country. The fam will highlight the “great scenery, lovely coastal and inland villages, amazing food and wine, and the natural landscape” of the region, according to Luis Fernandez de Vega, founder of Hidden in Spain.

Hidden in Spain’s fam of Northern Spain will start in Santander, the capital of Cantabria, from which guests will take a bus to Llanes, a small fishing village in Asturias. Along the way, among other activities, agents will visit several prehistoric caves and enjoy a brief visit to Santillana Del Mar, a town known for its mix of Romanesque, medieval and Renaissance architecture. They will also tour the 19th-century Gaudí-designed El Capricho chalet in Comillas and other attractions.

Other itinerary highlights include a guided tour of Oviedo, the capital of Asturias, a visit to the coastal city of Gijon, and a visit to the fishing village of Lastres. On another day, guests will ride on the funicular railway to the top of the mountain for a gentle hike in the Picos de Europa, Spain’s first and oldest national park. Guests will stay at a family-run boutique hotel whose staff wears the region’s traditional outfit. Among the excursions before reaching the hotel is a visit to the monastery of Covadonga and its little chapel inside a cave.

Continuing on, agents will visit the village of Fuente Dé for a ride in the funicular that takes riders to the top of the mountain, where they will enjoy a guided scenic walk. After lunch at a local restaurant in Potes, they will visit the sanctuary of Santo Toribio de Liebana and the tiny village of Mogrovejo. The next day is a visit to the famous hanging bridge on the outskirts of Bilbao. This will be followed by a visit to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, which many “Game of Thrones” fans will recognize as the setting for Dragonstone. Other highlights include a guided pintxos tour in the old quarter of San Sebastian that includes traveling from bar to bar, drinking beer and wine and tasting the traditional small snacks, or pintxos. In the evening, agents will dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant.

The final days of the tour include a special Rioja wine excursion, visiting a family-own boutique winery to taste its wines paired with pintxos. Guests will also be treated to an outdoor cookout in the middle of the vineyard. They will then head off to Laguardia for a guided tour. Then, it’s back to San Sebastian for some time to rest before heading out to a traditional cider house outside the city to taste local specialties and the popular cider.

The tour concludes with a private tour of Bilbao and free time for lunch in the old quarter, followed by a visit to the famous Guggenheim Museum

FAM rates are $2,959 per person, based on double occupancy. A supplement is applied for single occupancy. Price includes accommodations in three- and four-star boutique hotels, domestic transportation, guided tours, admission fees per itinerary and some meals. For additional information, contact [email protected], call 347-775-3397 or visit www.hiddeninspain.com/fam-trip-travel-agents-spring-2020/.
