Hippie Chic Hotel Opens in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen has a new dash of divine, we hear, with the arrival of the chic and edgy Hotel Cacao.

Hotel Cacao is catering to the "hipster chic" crowd that has become trendy of late, appealing to cocktail culture and foodies. Located on Playa del Carmen's 5th Avenue, the 60-room hotel is near the destination's restaurants, clubs and boutiques.

The interior design is clean and contemporary with pops of bold color. The rooftop bar features "cocteleria" experiences mixed with views of the Caribbean and Cozumel. The hotel's restaurant, Nibs, is helmed by Chef Alejandro Cuatepotzo, a protege of Enrique Olvera (of Pujol fame).

Nibs' menu serves up reinvented Mexican seafood and meat dishes, such as ceviches with coconut and lime, scallops with lime pearls, lobster with green mango, shrimp burritos, tuna and beef tartare…are you hungry yet?

The hotel is decked out with fun art (think brightly pained VW bugs). There is an after-hours-style bar downstairs with a sexy bordello look.
