Dominica’s Fort Young Hotels Reports Increase in Bookings Since Reopening

Seven months after Hurricane Maria and three months after reopening, Fort Young Hotel in Dominica has doubled leisure guest bookings, according to a news release issued by the hotel.

The hotel is operating with 41 of its 72 rooms and many of its core amenities, including the resort’s pool, the waterfront Warner’s Bar, in-room spa services and one of its meeting facilities.

New experiences at Fort Young Hotel include Jacko’s, a poolside bar, and an expanded boardwalk. Palisades Restaurant is scheduled to reopen in October with new and upgraded features. The resort is expected to be fully reopen in February.

According to the release, the resort is seeing especially strong bookings from leisure travelers, including families and adventure travelers. Visitors are both new and returning, and are traveling from all over the world. In fact, the hotel is reporting that it welcomed a first-time visitor group from Finland that booked before the hurricane and maintained their reservations, as well as a 16-person adventure group from Canada. Guests are also visiting from the United States and the Caribbean.

Diving continues to be a draw for visitors and Fort Young Hotel recently appointed a dive concierge to assist travelers who wish to explore Dominica’s marine life. The dive concierge creates customized dive experiences, coordinating diving locations, equipment, whale watching excursions and transportation to and from the desired diving sites, including the Soufriere/Scotts Head Marine Reserve.

In addition to welcoming leisure travelers and adventure-seekers, Fort Young Hotel is also reporting that it is generating bookings from corporate travel and group events. It also remains a hub for the local community to dine and socialize.
