Relais & Chateaux and Design Hotels have unveiled their expanded memberships for the new year, and Europe is well-represented among new members in both hospitality groups.

Fifteen of the 34 new members in Relais & Chateaux (www.relaischateaux.com), an association of 470 hotels and restaurants in 55 countries, are in Europe. They include Hostellerie La Butte Aux Bois in Belgium; Kong Hans Haelder in Denmark; Lower Slaughter Manor in England; Au Soldat de L’An II, Flocons de Sel, Chateau de Bagnols and Villa Augusta, all in France; Gaste Haus Erfurt in Germany; Imaret in Greece; Bauer Palladio Hotel & Spa in Italy; Hotel Airds in Scotland; Valdepalacios and Mas de Canicatti in Spain; and Grand Hotel du Lac in Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Design Hotels issued its 2008 yearbook (pictured), featuring 38 new members, the majority of them in Europe. New Design members in Italy include One Hotel in Siracusa, the Chedi Milan and Palazzo Barbarigo Sul Canal Grande in Venice. In London, the Knightsbridge, Number Sixteen and Sanctum Soho Hotel were added. Other new Design hotels in Europe include Hotel Avalon in Sweden, Hospes Madrid, La Reserve and Hotel Sezz in Paris, and Carbon Hotel in Belgium. Design’s hardcover yearbook falls on the group’s 15th anniversary and features nine designers and hoteliers who share their ideas for future and progressive hotel design, the company said.
