Ian Schrager Drops Hotel Chelsea Purchase Plan

Bloomberg News reported Tuesday that developer Ian Schrager took a pass on purchasing Hotel Chelsea after considering taking on the asset last month.

Schrager viewed the 127-year-old property in November. It is a nearly debt-free operation that includes 125 hotel rooms and 101 long-term rental tenants. Hotel room rates are on the rise in New York City, making the purchase of Hotel Chelsea a potentially appealing move.

Schrager, who, according to Bloomberg, started the boutique hotel in the mid-1980s, opened hotels in New York, Miami and Hollywood in the past several decades.
