Modern Palace Fit For a Maharaja Opening

Luxury hotel group Leela Hotels, Palaces & Resorts, recently marked the soft opening of its modern palace in Udaipur in India's Rajasthan.

Set on the banks of lake Pichola and surrounded by the Aravili Mountains, the luxury hotel has 80 rooms and suites, all overlooking the tranquil waters of the lake. The hotel also boasts three restaurants, a lounge and bar, a pool, and a 10,000-square-foot spa by ESPA, debuting in August.

This "Jewel on the Lake" combines traditional elements of Rajasthani artistry with contemporary cutting edge design by renowned architect Bill Bensley and interior designer Jeffrey Wilkes. Giant domes crown the roof, mosaics of mirrors adorn the walls, and guests are greeted in a grand courtyard.

“Our philosophy about service is based on ancient Indian scriptures: Atithi Devo Bhava, the ‘Guest is God,’” says Captain C. P. Krishnan Nair, chairman of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts.

The grand opening in set to occur in October 2009. However right now through September, clients can enjoy a special introductory package for two people for only $650 for two nights. The package includes a welcome drink and fruit basket upon arrival, daily buffet breakfast, round trip airport transfers in a luxury car and room tax.
