New Boutique Hotel to Open in Manaus in Brazilian Amazon

A new boutique hotel is set to open in Manaus in the Brazilian Amazon. Opening February 2, the Juma Opera will be set in two mansions in the city’s historic center, both of which have been restored under historic preservation orders. The hotel overlooks the Amazon Theater, which was inaugurated in 1896 during the Amazon rubber boom.

Each of the 41 air-conditioned suites will have a design emphasizing pastel colors, Wi-Fi, a minibar and a TV, as well as acoustically treated doors and windows. Some suites will also have a bathtub.

In addition to the accommodations, the hotel will also have a bar, a restaurant, a rooftop swimming pool, a fitness center, meeting rooms and event spaces. The restaurant, called Opera, will have a glass and iron domed room, and it will serve up a menu by Chef Sofia Bendelak. Amazonian dishes on offer will include Duck pastry parcels in a Tucupi velouté sauce; Ceviche of dragon fish, with Amazonian Leite de Tigre and vegetable chips; Fresh fillet of Pirarucu, with a chestnut crust, spicy pacovã banana puree and confit vegetables; and Rump steak with black Tucupi sauce, Brazil nut milk rice and toasted bacon cassava flour. Classic recipes will range from lamb chops with Moroccan couscous to sirloin steak with rosti potatoes and cassava flour with eggs; and green vegetables of the forest with parmesan crisps.

To enhance the view of the Amazon Theater, the hotel will incorporate solar panels and built-in wiring, as well as background music in the common areas associated with it. The hotel will also form local partnerships with resident musicians for live musical performances on property.

General Manager Rodrigo Dezan Cunha will manage the property. He has over 20 years of experience in hospitality, including opening the Unique São Paulo Hotel and the Breezes Buzios Super Clubs
