Nike Exec Named Starwood's Chief Brand Officer

First Starwood Hotels & Resorts chose a beer executive to lead the company, now it's plucked a shoe branding guru to head its own branding efforts. Phil McAveety, a branding and marketing executive with such companies as Nike Inc. and Camper International, has been named chief branding officer for Starwood, where he will oversee all aspects of marketing and brand performance worldwide for all nine Starwood brands.

Frits van Paasschen, CEO of Starwood and previous president and CEO of Coors Brewing Company, said he had worked with McAveety in the past and "his brand expertise and broad international experience would be invaluable."

McAveety has worked with hospitality companies in the past during eight years with Leo Burnett International, a brand-building marketing company, including Four Seasons and United Airlines.
