Puerto Rico Resort Starts $40 Million Renovation

Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa, A Wyndham Grand Resort, has begun a $40 million capital improvement project to upgrade its guest rooms, casino, meeting rooms, public areas, restaurants and golf courses.

All 600 guest rooms and suites recently were outfitted with Wyndham’s Michael Graves- designed Be Well bedding package, including new linens, pillows, duvets and blankets. In the fall, the resort plans to purchase and install Simmons BeautyRest World Class Super Pillow Top Mattresses. Also in the fall, updated soft goods, furniture and accessories will be installed in four of the Ocean Front Atlantic Suites and the Governor’s Suite.

The capital improvement project includes $4.7 million in renovations to the 7,000-square-foot Rio Mar Casino, including new slot machines, carpeting, chairs, tables and a redecorated Players Lounge, all scheduled for completion in early October. The property soon will begin a $1 million project to upgrade its 48,000-square-foot Oceanfront Conference Center, home to the largest ballroom in the Caribbean. The resort’s two 18-hole championship golf courses—Tom and George Fazio’s Ocean Course and Greg Norman’s River Course—will undergo $4 million in upgrades, and another $1.7 million will be invested in engineering upgrades. In conjunction with those projects, the resort has revamped the menu at its northern Italian-inspired Palio’s restaurant with the help of Gaetano Palmeri, chef and owner of the award-winning Gaetano’s Ristorante in Las Vegas.
