Starwood Sees Opportunity in Golf Sponsorship

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. reported that Westin Hotels & Resorts will be the official sponsor for professional golfer Jim Furyk, winner of the 2010 FedEx Cup and 2010 PGA TOUR Player of the Year.

Furyk will wear the Westin logo on his hat at the more than 20 events he will play this year. He will also appear in Westin marketing campaigns and make appearances at resort locations throughout the year on behalf of Westin and Starwood’s award-winning loyalty program, Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG).

“Our sponsorship of championship golfer Jim Furyk highlights our emphasis on promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in a way that will resonate with Westin loyalists and attract new travelers and golf enthusiasts to the brand,” said Brian Povinelli, vice president  of brand management, North America, for Westin Hotels & Resorts.

Furyk is the winner of the 2010 FedEx Cup and was recently named 2010 PGA TOUR Player of the Year. Currently the number five player in the world and the number three U.S. golfer, Furyk has 16 career wins on the PGA TOUR and has had 45 top-10 finishes since 2006.
