We first told you about Aqua Resorts' expansion plans during our April coverage of Tianguis Turistico in Acapulco, Mexico. But now Travel Agent has some more details following our recent interview with Francisco Gutierrez, vice president of operations for premium brands for Grupo Posadas, which manages Aqua.

There are plans a new 134-room, 36-suite Aqua Mexico City to open by March of 2009. Meanwhile, Aqua Punta Mita should be ready by next summer. That resort will have 80 rooms and 250 suites. Aqua Acapulco is slated to open its doors in winter of 2009, and will have 208 rooms and 42 suites. Aqua is also in discussions for several additional properties, including such destinations as Playa del Carmen and Los Cabos. Those plans, however, are still in the works and may not be finalized for another six months. If and when the plans are finalized, Gutierrez believes that the opening of these additional properties could take place within the next three to four years.
