Imperial Tours has announced that the company is now offering two new destinations: Datong and Pingyao.
Datong, a one-hour flight from Beijing, is best known for its Yungang Grottoes, fifth and sixth century Buddhist statuary and carvings found throughout 252 caves.
Pingyao, a four-hour drive from Datong, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a design dating from the Ming dynasty. China's most famous director, Zhang Yimou, set his classic movie "Raise the Red Lantern" here. Additionally, it was in Pingyao where the country's first check system was developed, making Pingyao China's first banking center.
Both destinations are a good fit for history buffs and culture seekers, Imperial Tours said.
