InterContinental Adds Another 1,400 China Rooms

InterContinental Hotels Group has signed management contracts with Shanghai Greenland Group for four new hotels in China, including one that as planned will be the world's tallest hotel. This agreement follows a management deal InterContinental signed earlier this month encompassing six hotels and 4,500 rooms with Chengdu International Exhibition and Convention Group. "These back-to-back multiple-property deals with China's leading property developers clearly illustrate our owners' and partners' trust and confidence in us," says Andrew Cosslett, InterContinental's chief executive. "We are extremely optimistic about the outlook for the region." Under this latest expansion, IHG will manage the 450-room InterContinental Nanjing, set to open in 2010 within the proposed Nanjing International Financial Center. This hotel is planned to be the world's tallest hotel. The agreement also includes the 380-room Holiday Inn Greenland Xian, anticipated to open next year. In Shanghai, the 230-room Express by Holiday Inn Putuo Shanghai is set to open late this year and the 350-room Express by Holiday Inn Minghang Shanghai is slated to open early next year.
