JetBlue Adds New Nonstop Service to Barbados This Summer

This summer, JetBlue Airways is adding twice-daily nonstop service to Barbados from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown, Barbados. The new service will operate from July 14 to Aug. 29 and is in addition to JetBlue’s already established daily morning departure from JFK to Barbados.

The new second-daily flight, JetBlue Airways flight 857, will depart from JFK at 11 p.m., arriving in Barbados at 3:52 a.m. from July 14 to Aug. 28. The second return flight, JetBlue Airways flight 858, will depart Barbados at 5 a.m., arriving in New York at 9:48 a.m. from July 15 to Aug. 29.

Barbados tourism officials anticipate that the added air service will bring more travelers to the island’s annual Summer Crop Over Festival, which takes place from July 1 to Aug. 1. The festival dates back to the 1780s when the sugar cane harvest was celebrated with the ceremonial delivery of the last sugar canes of the harvest, known as the “crop over.” The festival ends with the crowning of the carnival king and queen. Events include live soca and calypso music, dancing, arts and crafts markets, parties, cultural presentations and more. The grand finale, and national holiday, known as Kadooment Day, takes place on Monday, Aug. 1 with a colorful parade of costumed revelers, live music and rum.
