Mexico City: Mexico's Most LGBT-Friendly Destination

For the past 60 years, Puerto Vallarta has held the defacto title as Mexico's most gay-friendly destination. However in recent years, it seems Mexico City is vying for, and could have stolen, that title. Mexico City is Latin America's most cosmopolitan and chic city, and as such is a huge draw for LGBT travelers. In fact, Mexico City reflects its progressive mindset with actions designed to enhance equality for all members of sexually diverse communities. In 2010, same sex marriage was made legal in Mexico City, a first for any Latin American jurisdiction. Legal adoption by same-sex couples was also enacted in 2010.

Mexico City's Zona Rosa is the birthplace of the LGBT rights movement, and is home to some of the best gay nightlife in the world. LGBT travelers will also love the architecture and history of the Centro Historico; the artsy enclaves in Condesa and Roma; and the affluent lifestyle in Polanco.
