Hurricane Newton made landfall in Los Cabos today at 2 a.m. local time. The storm, with 90-mph winds, is expected to make a second landfall Wednesday over Mexico before hitting the U.S., according to NBC News.

The Miami Herald is reporting that Newton knocked out the power and left tourists to take shelter in their hotels. The storm was a Category 1 hurricane when it made landfall in Los Cabos, however winds were strong enough to blow down palm trees and dump eight to twelve inches of rain.

Hurricane Odile, which hit Los Cabos in 2014, was a Category 3 storm.

Hurricane Newtown has prompted Carnival Cruise Line and Regent Seven Seas Cruises to modify itineraries in Mexico, Cruise Critic reports. Carnival Miracle had to cancel a call at Cabo San Lucas yesterday and replace today’s call at Mazatlan with a sea day. Seven Seas Mariner also cancelled a stop in Cabo San Lucas today, instead spending the day at sea.
