U.S. Department of State Updates Travel Warning to Mexico

The U.S. Department of State has revised its travel warning to Mexico as of January 9.

According to the warning, which replaces the one issued July 12, 2013, millions of U.S. citizens safely visit Mexico each year. "The Mexican government dedicates substantial resources to protect visitors to major tourist destinations, and there is no evidence that Transnational Criminal Organizations have targeted U.S. visitors or residents based on their nationality," the statement says. Resort areas and tourist destinations are also deemed safe. The following states are considered safe for U.S. travel:

Campeche
Chiapas
Guanajuato
Hidalgo
Jalisco (Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara)
Mexico City
Naraity (Riviera Nayarit)
Oaxaca
Puebla
Queretaro
Quintana Roo
Tabasco
Tlaxcala
