NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — The Maid of the Mist tour boats are setting sail below Niagara Falls for the 130th consecutive season.

The first boat will launch at 9 a.m. Friday.

Maid of the Mist President Christopher Glynn says its vessels and facilities were upgraded during the off-season to improve passenger loading and unloading and accommodate extended holiday hours.

The steamship-style boats sail passengers from the New York shore to the bottom of Niagara Falls, where they can look up at the walls of whitewater crashing from above.

Hornblower Niagara Cruises offer passengers a similar ride from the Canadian shore. Hornblower opened its summer season on Thursday.
