In a major shift in its marketing strategy, Oceania Cruises and PBS are launching a Web series to reach high-end travelers, MediaPost reports.
The series will consist of eight videos, launching the week of August 17, and featuring "Curious Traveler" host Christina van Blokland on a Mediterranean cruise onboard the Riviera.
The new series represents the first TV sponsorship deal for Oceania, which was acquired by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) last November.
“But the sponsorship deal with ‘Curious Traveler’ is much more than a paid placement,” James Rodriguez, senior vice president, sales and marketing for Oceania Cruises, told MediaPost. “It’s why we’re so excited about the partnership. Not only does the two-year deal give us an ongoing television presence, but the talented team at Curious Travel is developing a collection of video assets that we can leverage across a wide variety of digital platforms, helping us to further expand our reach.”
The move is not the only upcoming change at Oceania since the company was acquired by NCLH. During the NCLH second quarter conference call, company President and CEO Frank Del Rio said that the company has applied for People to People Cuba travel licenses. While the timeline on that deal is still unclear, once it goes through Del Rio indicated that Oceania could be first in line for Cuba cruises -- the line's small ships would work well with Cuba's port infrastructure, he said.
