It’s no secret that the consumer has changed in terms of what they want from a trip. Today’s traveler no longer wants to feel like a tourist, like a stranger in a strange town. The desire these days is to fit in like a local and to take part in activities that convey the emotion of what it would be like to live in the place they’re visiting. Or, at the very least, to feel like a very privileged guest who has been granted access to see the sights in a most respectful way. Here are some take-aways from a recent Tour Operator Roundtable we conducted that should help you sell your services to Millennials and other experiential travelers.
European Waterways is offering early-booking specials of 10 percent off whole-boat charter prices on many 2019 departures when booked before September 14, 2018. These specials include the March 24 and 31, 2019 departures of the 12-passenger Panache as it cruises Holland during the beginning of the country’s tulip season. Prices for these cruises start at $53,550, a saving of almost $6,000.
In addition to departures in Holland, Panache is also offering 10 percent off whole-boat charter prices on select departures in the Alsace and Lorraine region, which the vessel cruises later in the season. Prices for cruises on August 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2019 start at $53,550, a saving of almost $6,000.
In Southern France, the eight-passenger Rosa hotel barge cruises the Gascony and Bordeaux, with excursions that include wine tastings, tours of medieval towns, chateaux and colorful village markets. Prices start at $30,420, a saving of almost $3,400, for departures on April 14 and 21 and 28, as well as May 5 and 12, 2019.
European Waterways’ largest vessel, the 20-passenger La Bella Vita, cruises the Venetian Lagoon, River Po and Canal Bianco between Venice and Mantua. Itinerary highlights include a tour of Venice, a visit to Chioggia’s colorful fish market, and dinner at the 17th-century villa of Ca’Zen, accompanied by the countess herself. Prices start at $66,960, a saving of $7,440. Eligible departures include March 24 and 31, April 7, 14, 21, and 28, and May 5 and 12, 2019.

Himalayan International Tours is offering a 10-day FAM trip of India and Nepal, leaving New York September 25. Guests will see the Taj Mahal, visit Kathmandu, ride an elephant and see countless historic cities, palaces, temples, mosques and more.
Travelers will spend their first full day in India in Delhi. They will visit the oldest and largest mosque in the country Jama Masjid, Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial and the bazaar Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi. The next day will bring guest to the Tibetan Handicrafts Center in Patan and the shell-shaped city of religious devotees Bhaktapur. The following morning travelers will have the option of adding on a flight-seeing tour of Mt. Everest. Afterwards, the trip will bring visitors to the World Heritage Site Bouddhanath, a sacred Hindu shrine.
The India Nepal trip includes airfare, hotels, sightseeing tours and English-speaking guides. The per person cost is $2,688, with an additional cost of $385 for a spouse.

Avalon Waterways has announced it is offering free air fare for passengers flying from the U.S. to Europe and $299 fare for cruises in southeast Asia. The cruise line also announced discounts of $500 per person for European trips and $1,000 per couple for southeast Asian cruises.
Avalon’s European air deal covers select cruises with departure dates from September to December. It only applies to flights leaving from LAX, EWR, JFK, IAD, BWI, BOS and ORD. Other cities may receive prices of $200 to $1,075 per person. Passengers may combine this deal with the $500 per person deal and Welcome Back Credit.
The cruise company’s southeast Asia deal provides trans-Pacific air fare at $299 per person round trip from certain U.S. airports. It includes air for travel packages from September 2018 to very early January 2019. This does not cover intra-vacation air, which ranges from $200 to $502.
The European $500 per person discount applies to select cruise packages the rest of 2018. The southeast Asian $1,000 per person deal covers select Mekong and Irrawaddy river cruises from September to December. Both can be used in combination with repeat traveler benefit and the flight discount if it’s offered.
All deals apply to travel and cruises in 2018 and cannot be used for pre-existing bookings. Each offer runs until July 24.

The Seaside Balcony Bonus, lasting from July 16 to 23, is available for travelers looking to book a balcony stateroom from fall 2018 to summer 2019. The deal is available with a reduced deposit of $99 and includes an extra $75 in shipboard credit per person.

With more travelers booking far in advance, Scenic has decided to reward those planners with a new All-Inclusive PLUS summer 2019 sale. The cruise line, known for its all-inclusive luxury European river cruises, is adding several more benefits to its early-bird deals.
Guests booking any June, July, or August 2019 European sailing by August 31, 2018, will receive a €200 (approximately $234) per suite on board credit and, for those booking sailings of 11 days or longer, free roundtrip door-to-door US airport transfers. This is combinable with the free air, free single supplement, discounted flight upgrades, loyalty and travel show vouchers, and pay-in-full offers already available. It is not combinable with Groups and National Geographic sailings.

The price per person sharing is $999, with a single supplement or a companion supplement at $449. The cost of airfare is not included.
The tour will take travelers to see Dublin City, Dublin Liberties Distillery, Kilkenny, Waterford Crystal, Blarney Castle, Ring of Kerry, Kenmare, Adare Manor, Cliffs of Moher and Malahide Castle. South African Airways Vacations (SAA Vacations) announced a $1,699 vacation package from New York City to Cape Town for this summer. The deal is open for new reservations made by June 11 for travel dates ending by August 10. The “Cape Town & Winelands Super Saver” deal include the price of flights and accommodation for five nights.
The discount, based on the cost per person for two travelers, is for economy class flights traveling from New York-JFK Airport to Cape Town on South African Airways (SAA). A representative from SAA Vacations will meet and greet travelers at the airport.
Three nights of the trip will be spent at the Sun Square Cape Town Hotel, close to main tourist attractions. The other two nights will be at the Evergreen Manor & Spa, near restaurants, shops and art galleries in the wine region town of Stellenbosch. RIU Hotels & Resorts is working with Travel Impressions to offer special discounts for various travel dates, mostly between December 23, 2018 and April 30, 2019. Deals include up to 37 percent savings, $35 spa credit, up to $350 air credit, a $1,000 group discount and complimentary upgrades for those who book by June 30.
Package discounts vary between locations with many hotels offering at least 20 percent off. Savings peak at 37 percent for three-night minimum stays at Riu Playacar.

Travel agents can choose from three new fam trips to Portugal from Tour Specialists Inc. of Florida. The tour packages include an eight-day trip around northern Portugal, a six-day tour through southern Portugal and a 13-day throughout all of Portugal.
