Amex Closes Travel Office in Southeast U.S

American Express announced it will close its travel office in High Point, NC, and, consequently, lay off nearly 100 employees, the Associated Press reports. The move is one of several staff reductions at expected travel offices around the nation.

A spokesman for American Express said that the layoffs and closing area result of a continued decline in the economy because people are spending less on travel. A few employees will be transferred to a credit card service center in Greensboro, NC.
