ASTA Urges Agents to Take Message to Congress

Underscoring the importance of grassroots travel agent participation in the legislative process – including hot button issues such as United’s credit card policyASTA is offering a timely webinar for agents, “Grassroots 101: How to take ASTA’s message directly to Congress.” The webinar is scheduled for August 12 at 2 p.m. ET. Colin Tooze, ASTA's vice president of government affairs, will conduct the webinar.

“Your Congressman works for you—well, sort of," ASTA said. "They're your representatives in Congress; you elect them and pay their salary, and in return they work on behalf of their districts and— ideally— for the common good. If your Congressman doesn't know something is a problem, you cannot expect him to address it.

“During the month of August, Members of Congress return from Washington to their home districts in order to meet with constituents, spend time with their families, and gauge the opinions of the people whose votes they hope to earn or keep in the next election," ASTA continued in a statement. "The 'August Recess' presents the perfect opportunity for ASTA members to educate their elected officials on key industry issues—including United Airlines’ dangerous new credit card policy.

“Congressmen are notoriously overscheduled, pulled in every direction, and subject to the guidance of staff members who may have an agenda of their own," ASTA said. "Delivering a message effectively in this environment can be difficult if you don’t have a clear plan of action.”

After registering you will receive a confirmation e-mail containing information about joining the webinar. Space is limited. Reserve at https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/211840083. The webinar is free for ASTA Members. $250 for Non-Member [Invoiced after the event].
