Costa North America Taps Carnival VP Sales as President, CEO

Maurice Zarmati will replace Lynn Torrent as president and CEO of Costa Cruises, North America, effective March 31, as the reorganization of Carnival continues after the departure of Vicki Freed. Torrent was named Carnival Cruise Lines' senior vice president of sales and guest services earlier this month. Zamati currently serves as vice president of sales for Carnival Cruise Lines, an organization he has been with since 1972.

Zarmati will be responsible for all sales and marketing efforts in Costa's North and Central American regions and will report directly to president of Costa Crociere, Gianni Onorato, who praised Zarmati's experience and industry credibility.

Between now and when Zarmati assumes his new post, Costa North America's Vice President of Sales Development, Joni Rein, and Ruben Perez, vice president of passenger services, will oversee all main functions of the Costa North America office.

Meanwhile, personnel moves continued at Carnival, as Terry Thornton was promoted to senior vice president of marketing planning for Carnival Cruise Lines where he will oversee revenue management and strategic marketing departments for the brand as well as deployment and itinerary planning. Thornton has been with Carnival since 1989. (DE)
