Hoffmann Receives NTA Advocacy Award

L to R: Mark Hoffmann, president of Sports Leisure Vacations in Sacramento, Calif., and NTA Advocate Jim Santini.

Mark Hoffmann, president of Sports Leisure Vacations in Sacramento, Calif., was honored by NTA for his advocacy work on behalf of the tourism industry during the association’s Grassroots Congressional Travel Summit, held in Washington, D.C., and co-sponsored by the Southeast Tourism Society and Destination Marketing Association International.

Hoffmann received the James D. Santini Award, which recognizes NTA members who have made long-term, significant contributions to the association’s advocacy efforts. Santini served for a 25 years as NTA's legislative counsel in Washington.

The NTAGrassroots Congressional Travel Summit educates tourism professionals on key issues and legislation and facilitates visits with their elected leaders in Congress.

“We’re doing what a lot of people on this planet can never do,” Hoffmann said. “I enjoy working with Republicans, Democrats and Independents because we all have common ground.”

Steve Richer, who now directs NTA’s advocacy work in Washington, said that Hoffmann keeps the association focused on government relations. “Mark has been such a bird dog in getting things done: promoting government relations within the association, being a strong advocate for tourism, and meeting with officials both in Washington and California.”

Hoffmann is currently vice chairman of NTA and in 2013, he will assume the top elected leadership role for the second time; he previously led the association in 2000. The NTA was formerly the National Tour Association.
