Marrakech Tops British Airways Destinations for 2011

Djemma al Fna square, MarrakechHeading into 2011, British Airways has released its top ten destinations for 2011, naming Marrakech as the number one spot. Following the Moroccan city are hot spots throughout the United States, the Caribbean and Asia.

Rounding out the top 10 are San Diego, New York, St Kitts & Nevis and Puerto Rico, followed by Maldives, Japan, Las Vegas, Mauritius and St. Lucia. Two months ago, the airline launched service to Japan's Haneda, scheduled to begin  Februrary 19. Additional service also includes top ten destinations Puerto Rico, to start March 28, 2011, and San Diego, to begin June 1, 2011.

Willie Walsh, British Airways’ CEO, said: “The response we’ve had to the launch of routes like the Maldives, Las Vegas and Marrakech has been incredible. We’ve seen destinations in the Caribbean and Indian Ocean becoming even more popular with leisure travelers looking for sun and relaxation. Those after 24-hour cities are heading towards New York, Las Vegas and Japan … Revenue this year is up 55 percent and there remains a huge opportunity for future growth.”
