Nexion and Vacation.com recently participated in Travel Leaders Group's Day of Giving, which involved donations to local food banks and more.

As part of the event, Nexion employees raised over $14,600 and more than 1,500 pounds of food. The donations will benefit the nutritional needs of children, families and seniors in 13 counties throughout North Texas represented by the North Texas Food Bank in Dallas, TX – as well as supporting local food banks throughout Canada.

“Nexion is proud to give back to our local community in North Texas and assist such a worthy organization. Hunger is most prevalent during the summer months, when kids are out of school,” said Nexion President Jackie Friedman

In addition to the physical and monetary donations, Nexion employees and members participated in a variety of volunteer efforts, totaling 84 hours.

Vacation.com employees donated nearly 280 pounds of food to support the Capital Area Food Bank in Lorton, VA. Vacation.com staff collected the non-perishable items at the Vacation.com headquarters and volunteered their time at the Capital Area Food Bank.

“Unfortunately, hunger continues to be a problem in many communities, including in our backyard. Particularly in the summertime, when children don’t have access to school-sponsored lunches, the need is acute,” said Vacation.com President John Lovell.

The philanthropic initiative was part of a larger “Day of Giving” effort in which Nexion joined with other Travel Leaders Group travel agencies and travel agents throughout North America on July 9 in a concentrated effort to reduce hunger.
