PATA Joins New Avian-Flu Response Network

The Pacific Asia Travel Association is among the founding members of the Tourism Emergency Response Network. This international alliance comprises members who are committed to working with such entities as the World Health Organization and the UN System Influenza Coordinator; sharing information on a real-time basis; and providing clear, concise and geographically specific public messages. Although the new network acknowledges that planning for the potential evolution of the H5N1 virus into a pandemic form is a common concern, they note that there currently is no threat to travelers and no case for restricting travel.
