Ryan McGredy Named ASTA's Young Professional

Ryan McGredy, president and managing owner of Moraga Travel, Moraga, Calif., was awarded ASTA’s Young Professional Award at ASTA’s 2011 Travel Retailing & Destination Expo in Las Vegas. ASTA notes that the award recognizes the efforts of an outstanding young travel professional. The Young Professional Society (YPS) targets travel agents under 40, for the purpose of networking, education and career development.

“Although Ryan has been a member of ASTA for a relatively short time, he has shown tremendous leadership and a desire to engage the industry’s young professionals in becoming the leaders of tomorrow. He is a true believer in ASTA and a savvy businessman whose personal drive and commitment serve as an example to others of how today’s young professional can positively shape the future of our industry,” said Tony Gonchar, ASTA president.

In 2007, McGredy became involved in Moraga Travel as a minority owner and later bought the majority stake in the company. Since then McGredy has created Contact Beacon, an email marketing system for travel agents, and is highly involved in several committees for both Ensemble and ASTA. He was recently elected vice president of ASTA’s Northern California chapter and serves on ASTA’s Young Professional Society (YPS) committee and was instrumental in planning the 2011 YPS Member’s Only Day.

In addition to his current role at Moraga Travel, he serves as president of Media Net Link, a successful web development company started by his father that specializes in creating applications for some of the world’s largest companies, ASTA reports. There, he oversees the company's financial and strategic decisions as well as participates in technical project management and implementation design.

McGredy graduated from the University of California at Davis in 2000 with a degree in Sociology and Organizational Studies.
