Travel Agent's Top Stories of 2012

san diegoTo close out the year, we’ve rounded up the top travel stories of 2012.

The travel industry faced some tough challenges this year - Hurricane Sandy snarled travel on the East Coast, and the Costa Concordia accident prompted an industry-wide review of cruise safety policies. The ongoing debt crisis in Europe also made its effects felt in transportation strikes and civil unrest.

At the same time, the industry rose to face those challenges. Travel Agent highlighted another strong class of 35 Under 30 winners, cruise lines continued to expand in niches like river cruising, and new resorts continued to open around the world. Additionally, the U.S. made itself friendlier to travelers with streamlined security programs like Global Entry and PreCheck.
