World Travel Market Kicks Off

This year’s World Travel Market, which opened November 3, has reportedly been the best to date, given many glowing reports from event attendees. The latter included a range of travel professionals, from business representatives, to brand ambassadors and academics, all of whom took advantage of the valuable seminars and networking opportunities. In particular, the hour-long Speed Networking session facilitated many commercial ties between global representatives.

Key speakers included UK Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Sajid, Spain's Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, Jose Manuel Soria, and Professor Ian Yeoman, a travel and tourism “futurologist.” Many of the talks featured multimedia accompaniments, such as a promotional video of Greece’s cultural heritage, which the Greek National Tourist Organization piloted especially for the Conference.

Another memorable highlight was supermodel Petra Nemcova’s presentation of The Happy Hearts Fund, a project she initiated whose mission it is to build at least 100 schools in natural disaster-stricken areas by the end of 2014. Well on its way to accomplishing this goal, the endeavor was praised and Nemcova, its founder, was bestowed with the conference’s prestigious World Tourism Humanitarian Award.
