Singapore's island resort of Sentosa is actually only minutes away from the city center. The island, which is seeing an incredible amount of tourism development, is reached by a short causeway. The $3.4 billion development Resorts World at Sentosa—slated to be operational by 2010—will offer a variety of family-friendly attractions, including Marine Life Park, Equarius water theme park and the largest Universal Studios theme park in Asia.

The big news this week on Sentosa Island is the opening of Capella Singapore. The hotel is the Asian flagship for Capella Hotels and Resorts. It opened with a bang by mounting two high-profile events in its first days. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars previewed its new 200EX model, while Gucci will be showcasing their spring/summer 2009 collection with a fashion show lounge event in the ballroom.

The hotel has been built around two colonial structures dating back to 1880. The property is being described as having the largest rooms in Singapore. The 111 rooms at Capella Singapore are comprised of a presidential manor, 38 villas, 11 suites and 61 premier guest rooms. Capella Singapore also offers the opportunity to live in the hotel for extended stays with full access to the facilities. These extended stay offerings include 72 sea-facing suites and duplexes, nine manors with private pools and one colonial manor.

All-day dining is available at The Knolls, serving a blend of Western, Indian, Japanese and local Singaporean cuisine. Afternoon tea at the restaurant presents 40 varieties of Japanese, British and Indian teas. Guests can also opt for fine-dining at the property's contemporary Cantonese restaurant, Cassia.

The hotel has a sculpture garden and an Auriga Spa and Wellness Center. Private chauffeur service is available via the hotel’s pair of Rolls-Royce Phantoms.

The Capella Experience package is targeted at introducing the Capella brand. Stay for two nights and enjoy a complimentary third night, valid through May 3.
