Mt. Brighton Ski Resort has broken ground on a $10 million investment project for the 2013-2014 winter ski season.
Vail Resorts, which recently bought the Michigan resort, says that it is the most significant one-time influx of capital improvements in Mt. Brighton’s history.
“The construction projects we’re implementing this summer are designed to re-imagine every aspect of the guest experience at Mt. Brighton,” said Taylor Ogilvie, general manager at Mt. Brighton. “We think our guests will be delighted with the big improvements like the new lift and a complete restaurant remodel. But it’s the improvements like significantly increased snowmaking, enhanced beginners’ terrain and a new children’s ski and ride school center that will really define the new standard of Midwest skiing and riding.”
Key Improvements
Expanded Snowmaking: The overhaul is expected to triple the resort’s snowmaking capacity, allowing the ski area to open sooner with a greater base, as well as quicker recovery from weather events.
New Chairlifts: The Blue and Green lifts will be replaced with a new quad chairlift for expanded capacity. The Yellow lift will also get a new quad, and the Silver lift will be reoriented to speed lines.
Slope Re-Grading and New Surface Lift for Beginner Area: The resort plans to replace its rope tows with a surface lift and re-grade the beginner trails to improve the learning experience.
New Terrain Park: Snow Park Technologies, which built and designed the Winter X Games courses and features, will create a new terrain park for the resort.
Racing Hill Expansion: The resort’s race arena will get improved terrain, new racing equipment, a planned USSA certification and a new finish arena.
New Base Area Facilities: Improvements will include a complete remodel of the restaurant, a new quick-service restaurant and a new Children’s Ski & Ride School Center.
EpicMix: The resort will get Vail’s EpicMix RFID technology, which allows skiers and snowboarders to track their ski days through a mobile app and share stats and information with their friends via Twitter and Facebook.
EpicMix Racing: Mt. Brighton will also get EpicMix Racing, which allows skiers and snowboarders to compare their race times against Lindsey Vonn.
