Snow guns blast Nakiska's slopes

After an early ski season opening in California on Friday, one ski resort in Canada is ready to follow suit. With the addition of 15 automatic and 16 manual snow guns, Nakiska Ski Resort near Calgary aims to open for skiers and snowboarders beginning November 7. The ski resort has the largest snowmaking system in Alberta, including 88 fixed tower guns throughout main runs that can cover an acre of ground with more than one foot of snow per hour.

When Nakiska opens its slopes, it will be debuting a few enhancements. The new high-speed Gold Chair Express gets skiers to the top in 4.7 minutes, moving up to 1910 people per hour. In addition, the resort has widened three runs by 60 meters and extended its core training run "Mapmaker" by 650 meters.

Nakiska has the largest magic carpet learning area for kids and was the site of the alpine events of the 1988 Olympic Winter Games.
