Small Fire on Carnival Sunshine, Carnival Vista Damages Dock

carnival vistaTwo incidents involving Carnival Cruise Line ships took place over the weekend.

On Friday, a small fire broke out on a passenger cabin balcony on Carnival Sunshine. The fire appears to have originated in a balcony chair, according to a statement by the line, and it was quickly extinguished by the crew. Guests were advised of the situation and all operations on board continued normally, Carnival said.

On Sunday, as Carnival Vista was departing Messina, Italy, current and wind were pushing the vessel off course. The ship’s officers were forced to  increase the vessel’s Azipod propulsion motors to control the ship’s movement and bring it back on course, Carnival said. In the process, the force of the ship’s propeller wash in the harbor impacted a nearby floating dock and some small vessels which were damaged. No injuries were reported.

Carnival said it sincerely apologizes for the matter and is in close contact with the Italian Coast Guard to examine what transpired.
