Vacations At Sea
New Orleans, LA
Andrew Rose and his mother co-own Vacations At Sea, a travel agency in New Orleans where they both run the business and sell travel, as well. Rose wears many different hats, as a travel advisor, as an owner, as the “numbers guy” and as the office trainer. After he got the travel bug when his grandparents took him on road trips through Tennessee, Rose went to undergraduate school for Hospitality & Tourism Management, got his masters and interned at Royal Caribbean International and for New Orleans & Company (formerly the New Orleans CVB).
When Rose became a co-owner of the agency, it was cruise-only and turned away business if there wasn’t a cruise or a trip component related to a cruise. “The addition of airline tickets, tour groups, FIT, and more has allowed us to grow our business both in the quality and quantity of business,” says Rose. “In the past five years [pre-COVID], our business has grown by well over 50 percent and most of this has to do with the additional services offered to our current and future clients.”
The agency has pivoted during COVID by taking on several independent contractors from a nearby agency whose owner exited the business.
“They are seasoned agents and have been great to work with,” says Rose. “I’ve been doing one-on-one trainings and assisting them with the transition from their old agency’s procedures and practices to ours. It’s a work in progress but we’re getting there.”
Another strategy has been to work with vendors, such as AmaWaterways and Sandals to conduct webinars with Vacations At Sea’s clients. “Many people are of course home more often these days, so these webinars are a great way to interact with clients and let them know that our agency is still here and that when they want to travel, I’m here to help,” says Rose.
