For Interior Design Concepts That ‘Whisper’
Clients pick a cruise for the itinerary, onboard product and budget, but for some, ship styling and interior design also are a part of the mix. Tapped as the new creative director for Cunard Line’s newest ship, the first in 12 years, is Adam Tihany, principal and founder, Tihany Design. Internationally recognized as a hospitality and restaurant designer, he is overseeing the creative interior design process for that much-anticipated, still-unnamed ship debuting in 2022.
Inducted into Interior Design Hall of Fame, Tihany has created beautiful spaces for such luxurious, iconic properties as The Beverly Hills Hotel, Belmond Hotel Cipriani, The Breakers in Palm Beach and The Oberoi New Delhi. He also has created signature restaurant interiors for Thomas Keller, Heston Blumenthal, Daniel Boulud, Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Wolfgang Puck.
Tihany says to expect a new ship with a much lighter, contemporary feel, yet one that still reflects Cunard’s British heritage via a “whisper” not a “shout.” Building a substantive portfolio of cruise ship design projects, he’s previously designed interior concepts for Holland America Line and Seabourn ships and currently serves as creative director for Costa Cruises’ next generation of ships.
