For Making CLIA Even More Agent-Friendly

Beloved by travel agents for his pro-trade stance and affable style, Charles Sylvia, vice president of membership and trade relations, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), has dreamed up new CLIA programs and reinvented others. Prior to his 2015 arrival at CLIA, fewer than one-third of all agent-submitted bonus commissions in CLIA’s bonus commission program were successfully paid. Thanks to Sylvia’s efforts to make offers more practical, valuable and less restrictive, 96.3 percent have been paid thus far this year

He also rebranded the CLIA card into the CLIA EMBARC ID, a photographic identification for CLIA members. Providing personal travel discounts and perks, it’s recognized not only by CLIA lines but also by hotel groups, rental car companies and others. Now being expanded globally, it gives CLIA members the recognition they deserve when traveling.

Sylvia also launched a new practical Webinar series for members. Topics range from “Closing Cruise Sales: Converting Prospects into Clients” to “How to Use Facebook to Promote Group Cruises.” He also championed an automatic membership renewal for agency members; this year, 84 percent of busy travel agency owners used that option.
