“People tell me all the time, ‘I wish I had your job,’” says Kayla LeClerc, an independent contractor at Dream Come True Vacations. “While I appreciate that I am so lucky to do what I do, I don’t think being a travel advisor is the right choice for just anyone.”
Prior to becoming an advisor, LeClerc had earned a Master’s Degree in school counseling and was having trouble finding work. A quick side job working at Disney Destinations was the key to a doorway into the travel industry, as she was able to share her extensive knowledge of Disney with clients. While planning and booking their trips, she fell in love with selling travel.
“I’ve since expanded my knowledge and my business to focus on family and romance travel and I couldn’t be happier. This is never the path I would have thought I’d be on but here I am, running my own successful travel business. It’s a dream come true — pun intended,” she says.
Her long list of awards and accomplishments proves to be somewhat of a modern-day fairy tale. She’s earned several professional certifications including her CTA from the Travel Institute and her CTAP from IBCCES. Her sales accolades within the agency include “Most Improved Agent” at the end of the last fiscal year, an invitation to the Romance Travel Forum this past spring and, most recently, “the title of Star Consultant within my agency for superior customer service, expertise, and sales achievements,” she says.
The smartest thing she’s done this year to make more money? “Putting more into my e-marketing efforts. I take time every week to update my website and blog,” she says
