For Razzle-Dazzle at “Perfect Day at CocoCay”

Guests love cruise lines’ Caribbean private island experiences — typically a day ashore with surf, sand, beach barbecues and fun in the sun. What’s not to love? But this spring, Royal Caribbean International debuted “Perfect Day at CocoCay,” a “next generation” Bahamian private island experience with $250 million in updates and enhancements. It’s fun, it’s cutting edge, it’s innovative. 

Credit should go to a collaboration between Michael Bayley, Royal Caribbean’s president and CEO; Laura Hodges Bethge, the line’s vice president product development; and Claudia Diaz-Gonzalez, director, private destination development, and their creative teams. The group created everything from new razzle-dazzle thrills to family attractions and relaxing “chill out” spots.

Among the highlights? Perfect Day at CocoCay offers the Caribbean’s largest wave pool as well as 13 waterslides, including North America’s tallest — the 135-foot Daredevil’s Peak. Bayley, Bethge and Diaz-Gonzalez even dreamed up a helium balloon to allow guests to soar 450 feet in the air above the island.

At Chill Island, guests will find private cabanas, a floating bar and powdery white sands, while Oasis Lagoon encompasses the Caribbean’s largest freshwater pool. On January 31, the Bahamas’ first floating cabanas will open at the island’s Coco Beach Club

More ships now call at Perfect Day at CocoCay, plus some itineraries feature two calls.
