Michelle’s Destinations Unlimited
As a destination wedding specialist, “Michelle always seems to pull off miracles for our brides and their families,” says Shelly Ramirez, manager at Michelle’s Destinations Unlimited. “One of her best qualities is listening to the customers and qualifying them to get them in the perfect fit.”
Those skills earn Michelle Carbone $3 million a year in sales; the 19-year veteran has a list of certifications that reads like a travel industry “who’s who:” Sandals, AMResorts, Disney, Palace Resorts, MGM Grand, Cancun, Aruba, Las Vegas and St. Lucia are some of the places she’s an expert on.
What’s the best thing she’s done to up the game with her business? “Hiring a staff that works for the same goals,” says Carbone. “Another is picking a specialty and really focusing on being the best in your area. You want to be the go-to for that market.”
Carbone typically handles destination weddings that have about 20 guests, but she’s been known to arrange those with 100 or more, seamlessly and stress free, says Ramirez. Carbone is skilled at developing personal relationships with wedding coordinators, which helps her to get clients exactly what they want.
In fact, it’s about relationships all the way for this wedding specialist who shares the following selling tips: “Know the product, the support staff and work closely with your business development manager.” She adds that it takes time to learn when to upsell, but it’s well worth it once you’ve mastered the skill. “Clients will upgrade when they reach the resort, so why not book it and have it ready for them at the time of the sale?” she says.
