The road to a career is not always a direct, deliberate one. Sometimes, the best things come by accident. This was the case for Neal Timoney, who focused on video production prior to joining the travel industry.
“I honestly kind of fell into the travel world while job searching before a move to my current location in Portland, Maine. I quickly fell in love with both the technical and customer service challenges that the travel industry presented me,” says Timoney.
Timoney is the Concur Manager at Partners Travel Management. He leads training webinars and runs support for all of the company’s corporate SAP Concur Travel clients. In addition to his current duties, he is training as a full ticketing travel agent.
The process of becoming more worldly, of triggering potential, often comes from going to places unknown, the ones travelers are reluctant to see. In November, Timoney took part in a FAM trip to Doha, Qatar. He says, although it is bordered by Saudi Arabia and encompassed by the Persian Gulf, Qatar is a safe place to visit.
“Doha, host of the 2022 [FIFA] World Cup, has been making a push to build tourism in anticipation of the highly anticipated sporting event, and, as I’ve passed on to my clients, it is trying to prove to the world that they are a great place to spend a vacation,” says Timoney.
His results, and his company’s investment in him, are testaments to his potential as an up-and-coming travel advisor. In fact, Robert McCoy, a manager at Partners Travel Management, says Timoney is ready for what is ahead.
“Unafraid of change, Neal is a diligent, customer-focused agent who immediately embraced the ever-changing advancements in travel technology,” McCoy says.
