Before becoming a travel agent, Nicole Thurman worked at Color Me Mine pottery painting studio. “I guess you can say that I’ve always been fulfilled by jobs that allowed me to be creative and work with people who just want to have fun

Since joining World Travel Holdings five years ago, Thurman has racked up myriad awards, including being recognized by the agency as a “Top Protector” for her fantastic insurance take-up rates, and has been lauded for going above and beyond for clients in the “Black Tie” program. She’s also been given a monetary award from Celebrity Cruises for her exceptional sales. One of the recognitions she’s most proud of, however, is the numerous Overboard Awards she’s been given by her peers. The award celebrates agents who embrace the company’s core values.

And not only have people in the industry recognized her hard work, but clients have too.

“I’ve received countless unprompted e-mails from clients upon their return thanking me for my support through their travels,” she says. “The best part is that so many of them feel comfortable enough to share pictures of their adventures with me as well.”

For Thurman, her job is much more than just selling vacations. She tells Travel Agent that while her love of travel drew her to the industry, “my ability to build personal relationships is what keeps me here.” An example of this is how she won over “a detail-oriented client who had poor travel agent experiences in the past [and] an unrealistic budget. Over time I gained his trust by being patient with his countless questions, continuously reassuring him and [engaging in] frequent correspondence to demonstrate that I could deliver what he was looking for in his travels.”
